Day 5 – Abu Simbel Temple & The Nubians

The Temple at the very Root of Egypt, just off the border of Sudan, and at the beginning of the Nile River.

After sleeping in a guest house on an island in Aswan, this morning we took the ferry boat to land, and left for a 3.5 hour drive through the Nubian desert, towards Abu Simbel, the city at the border of Egypt, just 40km from Sudan.

On the way, we had a chance to experience what a “mirage” looks like, and it is amazing to say the least, no wonder many wanderers died trying to reach it for water…

Anyways, we finally arrived at Abu Simbel Temple, and were met by our Egyptologist who started by explaining that the actual temple was mapped up in numbers, and moved stone by stone from the current location, to save it from drowning when they built the dam… and not only this, but the majority of the temples were moved from their initial power points by some metres to “save them”…WTF?!

It seems that Ramses II built this temple to receive the Sunrise inside the Holy of Holies on the 21st October & February, and the move shifted this by one day to the 22nd.

Adding to my theories, it seems that the Nubians were the original Egyptians, when Thoth and Horus arrived in this area, and appointed Ramses as the first King to rule this new civilization.
In the meantime, my hypothesis is that the level of the sea was so much higher, that the Nubian area & Sudan were actually the first port of call, and anything North from there was all underwater, so the Nile still did not exist at that point.

As regards energy, the setting is very grounding, in fact Abu Simbel is also known as the Root Chakra of the World, and we made sure to find a suitable spot within the temple to meditate, and program our purposely prepared palm crystals with the grounding intentions.

Now on the way back to Aswan, to board the Nile Cruise!

All Aboard!
